Today in history, the premiere episode of Saban’s Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, “The Day of the Dumpster”, aired for the first time. That was 21 years ago. I was 5. To this day, that remains a significant part of my life. I remember going through kindergarten, arguing over who was going to be what Power Ranger with my friends.
21 years later, Power Rangers still remains a significant part of both childhood and pop culture. With the upcoming Power Rangers Dino Charge, the brand has yet again come full-circle with a brand new team of dinosaur-themed planetary protectors.
It’s up to us, as fans, to help the franchise continue to blossom. Most of us may not be in that target audience anymore, but that doesn’t make our work any less significant. There are younger fans that look up to us, and as such, we need to provide a positive influence and environment for them. The Power Rangers have their legacy, and we have ours. Let’s leave a good one, shall we?
Here’s to 21 years, Ranger Heads, and may we have 21 more to grow on.
